Our Founder
Leonard F Canton Jr.
It was the 1970s, and Leonard Canton was working nine to five in the insurance business. Always adept with numbers, he put his accounting skills to work preparing taxes out of a small home office. Then in 1982, he took a chance on himself, left the corporate world and hung up his shingle for Canton Accounting and Tax Service in the heart of downtown Amityville. He never looked back, and for over forty years, clients depended on him for their personal and business taxes needs., along with a side of good advice and an infectious laugh.
Today his daughters Chamein Canton and Natalie Sherman have picked up their dad's mantle. You can expect to receive the same old-fashioned attention to detail and service as they modernize the office to serve your needs.
Entrepreneurship
Like many of his peers, Leonard Canton entered the workforce after college. However, when the 1970s brought economic issues such as high inflation, many large and small corporations eliminated jobs to reduce costs. Mr. Canton pivoted and turned his home-based accounting business into a full-time gig before he hung his shingle in the Village of Amityville.
As such he became a mentor to other people looking to go into business for themselves. His daughters continue to support entrepreneurs by offering reasonably priced payroll and business services so business owners can get back to doing what they love worry-free.
